Quvenzhané Wallis

She was born on August 28, 2003. Today Wallis is the American actress, best known for her role as the Hushpuppy in the movie Beasts of the Southern Wild, from the year 2012. She is also the youngest actress to receive a nomination for best actress for the Academy award. Wallis had a role in the 2014 Annie remake, for this movie she received a Golden Globe nomination.

She was born in Houma, Louisiana, her mother Qulyndreia, is a school teacher and her father Venjie Wallis is a truck driver, her siblings are, sister Qunyquekya, and two brothers, Vejon and Venjie. Her name is unique, and probably cannot be found anywhere else, because it is combined the first syllables of her parents' first.

Her first role as the Hushpuppy was and her greatest success (till now). Interesting fact about that role, at that time she was 5 years old, but the minimum age for the candidates was 6. Although, she was younger, and she had problems that didn’t allow her to apply, she beaded 4000 candidates and got the role.

Even director Benh Zeitlin said that when he saw young Wallis' possibilities he knew that she is the right actress. Because of her superb reading, loud scream, and very good acting, the director even changed a script, in order to fit better with her strong-willed personality.

Wallis had a role in the movie 12 Years a Slave, from 2013. She is the youngest Afro-American child actor to receive an Oscar nomination, and the first person born in the 21th century to receive an Academy Award nomination.
